Career Development Session on August 12, 2022

The Y2Y Mentorship program of the World Bank jointly with the IFC Mentorship team was pleased to organize a Career Development Knowledge Series for the first time in two years. The event was a great success and received participation from staff across regions and departments.

The event was held in a hybrid format with a Career Development panel discussion and an in-person Speed Mentoring session.

The panel discussion brought together senior staff from various departments at the World Bank and IFC. Natalia Antsilevich, Senior Operations Officer at the Development Finance unit, Carmen Nonay, Director of the Independent Evaluation Group unit and Robert Heffernan, Senior Investment Officer at IFC’s Financial Institution Group unit participated in the panel discussion offering valuable insights to younger staff. The topics discussed were varied and offered insights on career mobility, navigating organization complexities and advice on actions that help in the beginning of one’s career. There were also interesting anecdotes from the panelists’ own career experiences while on missions, life changes and career transitions.

The second part of the event was an in-person speed mentoring event. The format of the event focused on providing an opportunity for the mentors and the attendees to interact and connect. Each participating young staff had a 10 min conversation with senior mentors at the Bank on a rotational basis. The mentees provided five-minute pitch, followed by five-minute feedback from the mentor. This was a dynamic event with lots of interns and young staff who had the opportunity to interact with a mentor from a different department.

The Y2Y mentorship team received great feedback as to the format and success of this event. We look forward to conducting more of such sessions in the future to aid and assist in the career development of young staff at the World Bank.
